Own Art

Hetty Haxworth

Hetty Haxworth was born in 1971. She trained as a textile designer at Glasgow School of Art before turning to printmaking on paper, and in particular to screenprinting for which she has become best known.

Much of her recent work draws inspiration from coast lines. Using the organic forms she finds on beaches she explores the lines and textures on rock and stone as a basis for composition.

By simplifying the composition, with colour as the principle element, she creates a harmonious and rhythmic quality within each print.
Haxworth exhibits regularly throughout the UK and has shown her work as far afield as Denmark, Brussels and California.

'We can detect within Haxworth's work the influences of key abstract artists of the 20th century including William Scott and Victor Pasmore. The resonance of the work is the spatial relationship between its elements. Haxworth's work suggests the liberating spirit of the 1960's, with free floating forms suspended like ideas open for exploration and with the potential to be re-ordered, creating something new and fresh.' – The Watermill Gallery

In 2009, Hetty sold the entire edition of one of her screenprints at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

'Delightful and original geometric prints based on organic forms'
